Governor Okorocha’s Urban Renewal Programme for Orlu Kicks Off

At  last, Governor  Okorocha’s promise  to  Orlu  populace during  his   Thanksgiving  Mass  at  Holy  Trinity   Cathedral   immediately  after   his   victory in the   2015   Governorship  election   that  “Orlu Will Wear a New Look”   has  finally  kicked  off to the   joy, applause, and celebration  of  the  populace in Orlu municipality.

According to  a  press  release by  the Area Information  Officer, Orlu Local  Government  Area, Martin.O.Onunaku, the  bulldozers,  caterpillars  and  earth-moving  equipment  for the “Urban Renewal Programme “ in Orlu  municipality have  arrived  the  city  centre and   work  swiftly commenced  under  the  watchful   monitoring  of the  ebullient   Transition  Council  Chairman,of Orlu Local Government  Area, Chief Obinna Onyeocha and the Commissioner  for Rural Development, Chief Jerry  Okolie who  represented  the  irrepressible  State  Governor, DR.Rochas Okorocha.

The  event  commenced as  the flag-off of the major rural  link for  rehabilitation and  construction  was  launched at the Ohafor Okporo-Umutanze road by the  the  Commissioner  for Rural   Development,Chief Jerry  Okolie and the  ebullient   Transition  Chairman  of  Orlu Local Government Area,

The ceremony witnessed a large turn-out of Party Faithful, State, Development Council(SDC) Co-ordinators, Political leaders, Traditional rulers, Community leaders and officials of Orlu Local Government, some of whom used the forum to extol the unique qualities, charisma and development strides of the Governor OwelleRochasAnayoOkorocha.

Speaking at the occasion, the Honourable Commissioner, Chief Jerry Okolie assured the  massive   crowd  gathered   to  witness the  great  event of the resolve and promise made by His Excellency to complete all remaining road projects which   will  commence with the following roads:-

  1. Umuowa – Owerre-Umudioka – Umuzike – Eziachi roads
  2. Sabbath Mission – OhaforOkporo – Umutanze – School of Health roads,
  3. All Saints Okwuabala – Green Uzo Secondary School – Acharaba roads,
  4. S.C – Amike – Amaokpara – MgbaboAno roads,
  5. Township Primary School – Alhaji Tijani – Carrot Junction Amaigbo roads.

He stated that the approval of the Government has been received and the funds provided for commencement of work for the above roads and praised the Governor for making good his promises he gave when stakeholders from the L.G.A. visited him over the Christmas period.

Honourable Jerry observed that with work on these roads, Orlu L.G.A. will feel the impact of the on-going massive rural roads rehabilitation in the state and pleaded with the people to safe-guard all equipments for the work. He also asked for continued support of the people to the rescue mission government.

Contributing, the T.C. Chairman, Chief ObinnaOnyeocha, expressed joy that the whole thing is happening at his time and observed that the Governor has shown great love for Orlu people with the approval of the roads and by releasing funds for the immediate commencement of work.

He added that apart from the 5 major roads, some other ancillary ones both in the urban and rural areas are to be included. He  therefore enjoined the people of the area to continue to support the government in its  efforts  to   actualize  this  laudable  project of  giving  Orlu a  new  look.

The traditional rulers of Ihioma and that of OsIsiokwu Ihioma, HRH, Eze S.N. Okeke and HRH, Eze John. O. Nwosu respectively expressed happiness to be part of the heart-warming events and thanked the Governor for his good-wills. Other Community leaders including the ward Chairman for OhaforOkporo – Umutanze ward welcomed the development and commended the Government for commencing the rehabilitation work in their area.

In another development, the T.C. Chairman of Orlu L.G.A. Chief Obinna Onyeocha has instructed all street traders along Amaigbo road, OWUS Avenue and all adjoining streets including all food stuff traders at old Orie Ugwu to move into the stalls at old Onitsha park shopping Mall and the old Orie Umuna shopping complex immediately as government has concluded all arrangements to pull down all illegal structures and clear up all areas to make way for commencement of the rehabilitation work.

He also directed all the timber dealers, building materials traders and electronics dealers to move into the specific markets designated for them as the taskforce already set up to enforce compliance to the above will commence work latest by next week and all defaulters will have their wares confiscated.

Finally, the T.C. Chairman, Chief Obinna Onyeocha, praised the Governor for  fulfilling his  cheering promise to move into Orlu and pledged unalloyed support and co-operation of the people of Orlu L.G.A.
