He said they took the decision because they were convinced it was the right thing to do.
The royal father said the fact that this was the first of such endorsement from traditional rulers in the South East underscored how serious they viewed their action.
Eze Ohanwe had led more than 100 traditional rulers of the South East extraction to express support for Buhari’s re-election as, according to him, the president’s re-election in 2019 would pave way for an Igbo man becoming president in 2023.
Speaking to our correspondent at his palace in Ehime Mbano, amidst the controversy that followed the endorsement, Eze Ohanwe said they were neither coerced nor induced to take the action because it was a well thought out and deliberated decision, adding that as custodians of the people’s custom and tradition, they were in the right position to know what was good for them.
He said for him to have led such a powerful delegation and put his reputation at risk meant that they were not joking, stressing that Buhari had done a lot for Ndigbo and so deserved their support for 2019.
