Ohaneze Ndigbo Bayelsa State inaugurates reconciliation committee

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo Bayelsa has inaugurated a seven-man committee to reconcile Igbos resident in Bayelsa.

The there had been leadership tussle among them for some years.

Mr Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, the Coordinator, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing, South-South, performed the inauguration in Yenagoa on Tuesday.

Arthur-Ugwa, who is also the Group’s Youth President, told NAN after the inaugural ceremony that the committee was mandated to bring the Igbo people together in the interest of peace.

“Yes, this is a directive from our National President, Chief Nnia Nwodo, to ensure that every acrimony among Igbo people in Bayelsa is resolved.

“This is a move to ensure that the Igbos are moving together for peace and unity; we are calling on every Igbo person living in Bayelsa to join the moving train and eschew gossip and disunity,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Mark Nlem, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Bayelsa, said that the constitution of the committee was a welcome development in ensuring unity among the Igbos.

Nlem explained that the members of the committee were selected without sentiments.

“I urge them to work hard to ensure that the house is rebuilt in the interest of the people because development cannot thrive where there is disorder; let us move forward as one entity.”

In a remark, the chairman of the seven-man committee, Mr Ikechukwu Nweke, assured the people that the members would work as a team to bring all Igbos in Bayelsa together again.

“I believe we are one and we cannot destroy the brotherly love that God has given to us,” Nweke said. (NAN)
