The Imo State Government says that it attaches great importance to the uplift of the status of Owerri as well as making it the best state capital in the federation.

This was announced by the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha while addressing the members of the Owerri Federal Constituency Political Movement who paid him a solidarity visit at the Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

Governor Okorocha expressed satisfaction with the support his administration  has received from the people of Owerri, pointing out that such support had inspired him towards the provision of more dividends of democracy for the upliftment of standard of living of the people.

He described the people of Owerri as hospitable and commended them for allowing the state capital to be sited in their area, explaining that such sacrifice has placed them on the tourism map of the country.

The State Executive who was disturbed by the traffic congestion experienced at various areas in Owerri disclosed that his administration has undertaken the construction of five new bridges across the Nworie River explaining that the completion of the bridges as well as the ring roads will among other things ease traffic problems in Owerri and its environs.

Governor Okorocha revealed that he would constitute a committee that will ensure that the three LGAs that make up the movement work in unity to foster development, and enjoined them to always see their being split into separate LGAs as necessary for administrative convenience.

He regretted that no ‘Igbo’ man had occupied any of the six apex positions at the federal level, a situation which according to him has the ‘Igbos’ be playing second fiddle in the affairs of the country; and therefore assured them that the All Progressive Congress [APC] will provide the ‘Igbo’ people the opportunity to take their rightful position in the country.

He thanked the people for the support they have been giving to him especially their membership and support to the All Progressive congress and called on others to emulate same.

In an address earlier presented by Retd Justice Luke Njeribeako on behalf of the constituency, the people congratulated governor Okorocha on the laudable achievements of his progressive and visionary leadership which have revolutionalized governance and repositioned the state for better.

They expressed gratitude at the appointment of their brother and sister into administrative seats of government, especially their leader, Sir Jude Ejiogu, who they described as a bridge builder and a stabilizing force in the politics of the constituency and the state in general.

The people pledged the movement’s unalloyed support to the All Progressive Congress and Governor Okorocha in particular, adding that “for this reason, we move with you and assure you that with your support, no stone will be left unturned as far as the 2015 elections are concerned”

Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of gifts to the governor by the three Local Government Areas that make up the Owerri Federal Constituency Political Movement.
